Our 4 Favorite Bamboo Baby Pajamas for Sweet Sleepy Nights
If someone asks, “What plant are you wearing?” You might be momentarily confused and respond with, “Um…cotton, I guess?”
Without knowing the makeup of your clothes offhand, that would be a good guess. Cotton is one of the most popular plants used in clothing. It’s breathable, naturally occurring, soft, and hypoallergenic.
What if we told you, though, that you can get all that with a more sustainable material? Neat, right? Well, we have good news. That material is real, and it’s bamboo.
What are Bamboo Baby Pajamas?
Bamboo has many applications. Because the material is soft and breathable, it’s popular in many pajama sets. Its hypoallergenic properties make it a top choice for people living with eczema, a skin condition that causes dry, itchy skin.
As many as 60% of babies develop eczema in the first year of life. It’s no surprise that infants have delicate skin, as it’s one-fifth the thickness of adult skin. Additionally, babies’ immune systems have yet to encounter many common chemicals. For all these reasons, baby bamboo pajamas are near the top of the list on many baby registries.
Top 4 Bamboo Baby Pajamas: How We Chose
Bamboo is often better for the environment than other common clothing materials. It’s fast-growing, captures carbon more efficiently than many other plants, and doesn’t require many chemicals for healthy growth.
With that said, some companies go further than others when it comes to eco-friendliness and sustainability. Seeing certifications from conservation and green organizations was a plus when we were looking for bamboo pajamas. It was also helpful when brands peeled back the curtain and provided us with insights on sourcing and production. We’re also not ashamed to admit that we’re partial to pajamas that make our babies look even cuter than they already are!
Our Picks
All featured products are chosen at the discretion of the author and DGHQ editors. However, Do Good HQ may make a small affiliate commission if you click through and make a purchase.
1. Wild Woods Toddler Pajamas (Dreamy Skies)
Certifications | CPSC-certified; chemical-free; woman- and veteran-owned business |
Material | 95% bamboo viscose; 5% spandex |
Sizes | 2T–4T |
Price | $19 |
This minimalist pajama set sells for a fantastic price. The pictures of brown bears, deer, and pine trees are simply lovely and perfect for families that love the great outdoors.
Highlights
The companion piece to the toddler pajamas is the infant convertible romper. The romper has foldable mittens to guard against scratches from errant fingernails. If you have two little ones, matching them up in these pajamas will create plenty of photo-worthy moments.
Things to Consider
The company’s story makes it clear they understand why bamboo is a preferable clothing material. It left us wanting a little more information, however, when it comes to sourcing and production.
2. Terracotta Bamboo Convertible Footie (Bellabu Bear)
Certifications | Oeko-Tex-certified; Recognized by National Eczema Foundation |
Material | 95% bamboo rayon; 5% spandex |
Sizes | Newborn–3T |
Price | $33 |
Bamboo is more than just eco-friendly (relative to most other clothing materials) and hypoallergenic—it also has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. Those are important for babies’ fledgling immune systems. It’s clear from Bellabu Bear’s website that your little one’s skin will be most comfortable in this bamboo convertible footie.
Highlights
Besides having foldable mittens and being a convertible romper, we love the dual zippers. That feature is most appreciated during middle-of-the-night diaper changes when you’re (at most) half-awake.
Things to Consider
Bellabu Bear’s website explains that a “delightful” portion of each order goes to charities supporting children, animals, and the environment. We’re big fans of giving back, but we would have liked more specific details on the company’s charitable endeavors.
3. Rainbow Convertible Pajamas (Gunamuna)
Certifications | Oeko-Tex-certified; Received Candle Sleep Safe Award; Approved by Pediatric Sleep Consultants |
Material | 95% bamboo viscose; 5% spandex |
Sizes | 0–24 months |
Price | $27.20 |
Do bamboo pajamas keep babies warm? They generally do, but this one most certainly does. We recommend this relatively heavy romper/footie for cooler winter nights. It’s snug around the torso but has plenty of room in the diaper and leg area.
Highlights
Every Gunamuna product has been tested in a JPMA-approved (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) laboratory. The Hip Dysplasia Institute has also certified the company’s products as Hip Healthy. We came away extremely impressed with the care Gunamuna puts into each product; the founders seem to care about infant safety a great deal.
Things to Consider
For every Gunamuna purchase, the company donates one dollar to a charity of the consumer’s choice. At the moment, you can choose from PALS (Pregnancy After Loss Support), Resolve (National Infertility Association), and March of Dimes.
4. Quincy Mae Bamboo Zip Footie (Halloween)
Certifications | BCSI- and BCI-certified; No forced labor; Fair wages |
Material | 96% bamboo viscose; 4% elastane |
Sizes | 0–18 months |
Price | $39 |
We couldn’t resist throwing in a Halloween-themed pajama set here, and we found none better than this product from Quincy Mae. This footie is a perfect way to introduce your baby to their first autumn, inarguably the best season.
Highlights
Our testers felt Quincy Mae’s footie pajamas perfectly straddle the line between thick and thin. Sizes covering six to 12 months have slightly raised rubber dots on the soles to help your baby take their first steps.
Things to Consider
Quincy Mae has quite a bit of information about its sourcing practices and the factories it chooses to use for production. The company strives to use WRAP-certified production facilities and recyclable packaging whenever possible. A portion of every purchase goes to the Rylee+Cru Foundation, which donates to a wide array of charities.
How to Choose Bamboo Pajamas for Baby
Babies are expensive. While they deserve the best you can provide them, don’t worry about giving them top-of-the-line everything if your budget has limitations. Most parents are in that boat. The love and care you give your baby is far and away the most important element of raising a child, anyway.
When choosing bamboo pajamas for your baby, it’s worth seeing which certifications have been bestowed upon leading brands. For instance, seeing the lengths Gunamuna went to for child safety was incredibly reassuring to us as parents. Infant clothing has to satisfy numerous safety standards before landing on the online marketplace anyway, but it’s fair to reward companies that go above and beyond.
We promise your baby will feel uber-comfortable in whichever bamboo pajamas you choose. Happy shopping!
